If you are working on a laptop, sooner or later you will need to transfer files to your course account in order to submit them. This step may not be necessary if you do all your work on the lab Linux workstations, since they share the same file system as aurora.

Secure File Transfer

Regardless of whether you are using Windows or Mac, you will need a secure file transfer client program. Popular options are WinSCP for Windows and Fugu or FileZilla for Mac. Some of these are available at the Smith software page; others can be found by a web search.

Run your secure file transfer program and connect to aurora.smith.edu using your course account information. You may be able to use the default settings for the rest of the connection details. If it requires a port number, use 22.

When connected, you should see the contents of your home directory by default. If you have created subdirectories for each assignment, you may navigate to these before transferring files. Once you have copied the files onto aurora, you will still need to log in via secure shell to submit your work for grading.
