Macintosh OS now offers an environment that is similar to Linux, since both are Unix variants. There are two main differences: the programs you will use to accomplish various tasks will differ, and you will need to upload your files to aurora before submitting since the Macs are not connected to the Unix network. Below is a list of the different programs you can use. If necessary, you can use the Find command to locate any of these.

Terminal

The Terminal program gives you a shell prompt just like the one we have been using in Linux.

Text Editing

Instead of emacs, you can use the TextWrangler program.

File Transfer

Use Fugu to transfer files to your course account on aurora.smith.edu. Once you have the files there, you can log into aurora from the Terminal by using the command ssh 112b-xx@aurora.smith.edu (fillin your appropriate account name). You will need your password.
