AE/IE Help

As we mentioned earlier, the beauty of an inference engine1 is that it is not specialized to any one domain or rule base2. By changing the facts and rules in the program we can get it to make inferences about any situation or problem.

2pp. 312-313

  1. Take the weather prediction rule-base that you developed in lab 9.1, and rewrite it so that it is in a form suitable for AE/IE. The "facts" for this rule base include "barometer is rising," "barometer is steady," "it is sunny," "it is raining," "local forecaster predicts rain," and any others that you added by virtue of including them in your rules.

  2. Enter your facts into AE/IE's fact list, and set the conditions to describe one set of circumstances. Editing is accomplished just by clicking and typing.

  3. Enter your rules into AE/IE's rule list, referring to the facts by number as in the example.

  4. Test your rule base by running the inference engine for a variety of fact settings.
