More on Learning to Use Pure Data (pd)

amplitude envelopes and modulators.

Readings are:
Read pages 44-47, I'm the operator with the Pocket Calculator - Some Reflections on Pure Data We'll talk about this on Wednesday (Feb 13)
  1. Chapter 3, section 3.1 Basics, of the Johannes Kreidler text. (Make sure you have also finished reading ch2)
  2. Two Hernandez video tutorials:
The line~ object, with the tilda, works at the signal or audio rate, and can be used to control the amplitude of an oscillator. A related object is the vline~, which allows more than one ramp.
If you put a line~ object on a pd patch and Ctrl-Click or Right-click on it you can read the help file and how to use it.
  3. Open pd and open a new file, save it is hw2.pd
  4. Make your hw2.pd screen larger by dragging on the bottom right of its window.

hw2 - Make 45 second composition.

Use examples fromK Kreidler chapters 2 and 3, the two Hernandez videos, and elements from your first pd patch if you like them. Generate a 45 second composition. Add dynamics, and avoid generating popping sounds by using volume envelopes.
  • put hw2.pd on your web site.
